The Name...

It's pronounced, "Min Tree-et Anthony Win"

Have you been lucky enough to get one of my cards?

here it is.

If you can see, there is writing around the edge. Here's what it says.

The full name is Minh-Triet “Anthony” Hoa Nguyen.

-Minh-Triet is my first/vietnamese/birth/legal name. Minh-Triet literally translates into "Philosophy of Intelligence" in Vietnamese. No one ever uses this name, except for myself for filling out legal forms and stuff of that nature. Not even my parent call me by this name. They call me by my family nickname, "Bo," which i have no idea what it means, I can only imagine it meaning something horrible or insulting to myself. All I know is "Bo" is a Vietnamese unisex name and that I should be annoyed that people still call me this because i'm a little too old for a name like this... but I'm not...

-Anthony, the name the world knows me by. the name "Anthony" was given to me because Great grandfather, grandfather, and father was baptized under Saint Anthony of Padua. the reason it was given to me was because each of the Anthonys before me was the first born in their family, so following tradition, the first born should name his first born "Anthony." Problem is, I'm the second born. Funny story... when Dad got his first born, he named it "John" for whatever strange reason. It wasn't until later when Father figured it out So he made up for it by sticking the name on me...
So Father screwed up the tradition, which is probably why life is going the way it is.

So Anthony was used as my name for school so I can fit in and be more "American." I've used this name thoughout elementary school and middle school. Everyone knows me by this name.

It wasnt until junior year of high school when Father told me to go to the school office to change my name, because of my birth certificate and social security wouldn’t match up when I'd apply for college and jobs. Because of this change, my Senior Picture says Minh-Triet. So years from now when people look me up in the Yearbook, Anthony will not be there.

So Minh-Triet is my name, but call me Anthony, it’s so much easier.

Enjoy!
